HABITAT FOR HUMANITY The Village of Islamorada recently purchased property at approximately MM 88.2 for four three-bedroom Habitat of Humanity homes. The Village paid $270,000 for the three lots. FLORIDA SEA BASE The solutions to affordable housing in Islamorada doesn't just lie with the government. A number of businesses and organizations have taken it upon themselves to provide housing for their employees. The Florida Sea Base on Lower Matecumbe is one such organization. The Sea Base has provided NUMBER of onsite homes for its employees. PURCHASE OF LAND FOR ACHIEVABLE HOUSING On May 12, the Village of Islamorada purchased four lots on the corner of Woods Ave. and U.S. 1 for $390,000 for the purpose of affordable housing. The Village is putting out an RFP (request for proposals) for the private sector or other organizations for ideas. On Monday, May 22, the Achievable Housing Citizens Advisory Committee voted unanimously in support for this initiative. |
